DIY Zodiac L Mirror!

There is nothing I love more than when one of my followers sends me a project they want me to tackle. And that’s EXACTLY what happened with this next one! If you buy this Zodiac L Mirror by Jean-Baptiste Fastrez new, it’s an INSANE $1,700; I’m going to show you how you can recreate it for just $50!! After all, it’s like my favourite thing to save you guys (and me!) money!!

Sooooo, let’s go! What do you need?

  • A mirror you want to transform
  • Aluminium foil
  • Joint compound

No, seriously… that’s it!

Okay, so this is what you need to do:

1. Get your mirror… this might be a brand new one you’ve bought specifically for this project, or it could be one you have lying around that you want to upcycle (we LOVE an upcycle in this house).

2. Lay it on a flat surface like a table but prop it up a little with a box - careful because if your mirror is anything like mine, it’s gonna be HEAVY! Maaaaaybe get someone to help you with bit.

3. Then it’s time to start making your project come to life! You’re gonna need a LOT of aluminium foil for this… be prepared! SO, get your foil and start moulding it to the outside rim of the mirror. To begin with, this will not have any particular shape to it, but as you keep adding layers, make a curved shape (kinda like if you were to get a pool noodle and wrap it around - that shape).

4. So, do this for the majority of the way round the mirror, but once you get to the metal bar on the back that has the wall fixtures on it, STOP! Here we are going to do something a little different. We need to create the rounded shape that is in the original design. And it’s not random that I say do it at this metal pole… the joint compound is gonna be a little heavy, so doing it here will mean it has something to kind of rest on - science, baby!

5. Once that’s done, get mixing your joint compound!

6. Finally, take the joint compound mixture and go across the entirety of the aluminium foil to make it nice and smooth and pretty!

And that’s it! This one was super easy and I just KNOW it’s going to transform the room you put it up in!
